State of Coworking on the Gold Coast

More than one million people will work in coworking spaces in 2017…one of the forecasts from Deskmag’s Global Coworking Survey.

By the end of 2017, nearly 1.2 million people worldwide will have worked in a coworking space. There are around 14,000 coworking spaces in operation worldwide. Small spaces, that is those with ten members or less, have declined dramatically from 23% to 12%.

Nearly one in five coworking spaces boasts 150 members of more up from 13% in 2016. According to operators, an average of 129 members currently work in a coworking space, 56% are new members; 40% use a coworking space at least every work day and 30% show up three or four times a week.

The simultaneous occupancy rate remains at 60%. Two out of three coworking spaces intend to expand their floor space, 40% plan to add a new location; larger spaces are more likely to have plans to expand.

86% anticipate more members, 81% expect higher income, 71% more events and 84% are planning to develop a greater sense of community.
